Private Meredith Bixby (Jerry) is completely out of step with army procedure, even though he has had 17 months of training. An army psychologist is assigned the duty of making him a good soldier. Although he has a photographic memory, Bixby is a complete failure as a soldier. His antics make him the laughing stock of his entire company. Hal Wallis had purchased the rights to this film from Sad Sack comic strip creator George Baker. Originally intended to be a Martin & Lewis project, it was reworked for Jerry as a solo. Peter Lorre is notably creative as the eccentric and wily Arab.
