In the final chapter of "Martin & Lewis: Their Golden Age of Comedy," Jerry Lewis tells the story of their break-up in 1956 and how he began his solo television career. Highlights include more never-before-seen clips from "The Comedy Hour," as well as Jerry's solo television project, "The Jerry Lewis Show," which aired from 1957 to 1963.
On July 25, 1956, ten years to the day of their first show together, Martin and Lewis broke up. After 16 successful films, over two dozen top-rated television shows and thousands of sold-out performances, their magic had come to an end. The fans were stunned at the announcement.
Fortunately, solo success was not a problem for either man after the break-up.
Dean Martin built up a career as a singer, actor and television star. Jerry Lewis returned to television in 1957 after his first solo film, The Delicate Delinquent. He produced and starred in 15 one-hour specials which featured the trademark comedy of Jerry's vaudeville work before Dean.
"Jerry...Alone at the Top" also features the now-famous appearance by Dean Martin on Jerry Lewis' annual Muscular Dystrophy telethon in 1976, the first time they had seen each other in twenty years.
Chevy Chase, Howie Mandel, and Martin Short guest star with Jerry.
For ten years Martin and Lewis ruled the world and left behind a lifetime of laughs. In 1956, the comedy team made their final performance.
Jerry Lewis is joined by special guest star Martin Short who talks about the Martin and Lewis influence in his comedy.
